Grief/Loss

We Grieve because we Love.

Intellectually we all know that death is a part of life. However, it is not a problem of the mind but of the heart. The pain of losing someone you love can feel so overwhelming and can change the very core of who you are. Your feelings are normal and there is nothing wrong with you that needs to be fixed. Grief is a process and a journey. David Kessler said it best, “The only way out of the pain is through the pain”. “You can’t heal if you can’t feel”.

We have all experienced some level of grief and loss and therapy can help you

Grief is not only caused by death but a variety of losses we experience in life. Here are some other common reason people experience grief:

  • Job Loss

  • Divorce

  • Pet Loss

  • Breaking up with a significant other

  • Loss of a Friendship

  • Loss of Health

  • Loss of a dream/goal

  • Loss of Financial stability

  • Retirement

Life Transition/Adjustment

“Progress is impossible without change”.

Are you entering into a new and unfamiliar season in your life that has caused you to feel worried, anxious, or stressed? Has it been difficult adjusting to where you are in life and you feel unsettled? Have you made a career change or gone back to school? Has your friend group changed and you're struggling to meet new people? Have you traded in your singleness and become a new wife/husband and are struggling to adjust? Whatever life transition or adjustment you find yourself making, I am here to walk you through this journey.

Change is necessary but life transitions are challenging because they force us to get outside of our comfort zone, let go of the familiar, and face a future of uncertainty. Changes, whether perceived as good or bad, will help us learn, grow, and become better if we allow them too.

Let’s embrace this new journey together, navigate the changes, and help you cope in a positive way.

Therapy for
College Students

Are you struggling to get adjusted and acclimated to college life? Are you being pressured to succeed in your academics? Are you experiencing feelings of anxiety and depression and it's interfering with your education? Are you struggling to find your way and make new friends? If this sounds like you, I am confident I can help.

I have over 13 years of experience working in Higher Education with students of all walks of life. I know first hand the unique challenges that college students face. Mental Health problems are common among college students, as young adults ages 18-29, are still experiencing cognitive development and are at the primary age for the onset of mental illness. Leaving High School is an exciting time but starting college also brings feelings of overwhelm, stress, uncertainty, loneliness, confusion, frustration, and more.

Therapy can help you navigate these exciting yet challenging years of college. You will learn more about yourself, increase your self-esteem, have better relationships, identify your academic and career goals, learn and implement effective coping skills, and how to be successful in college.

If you are a college student looking for some help, reach out today so we can Guide you to BreakThrough.

Therapeutic Approaches

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy also known as CBT helps people find new ways to behave by changing their thought patterns. Essentially, CBT looks at how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all interconnected, and how we feel and what we do is in response to the way we think. We may not be able to control the thousands of thoughts that cross our minds on a daily basis but we can control the thoughts we think on and change the way we think. We will identify and challenge faulty thought patterns to improve the quality of your thought life, emotions, and behaviors.

Client Centered Therapy

Client Centered Therapy also known as Person Centered Therapy, focuses on the person not the problem. Clients are encouraged to actively take the reins during therapy sessions, while the therapist guides and supports you along the way. You have the ability to reach your fullest potential by utilizing everything that is already within you.

Solution Focused Therapy

Solution Focused Brief Therapy, also known as SFBT, helps people focus on their present and future circumstances and goals rather than past experiences. SFBT is a goal-oriented therapy, where your skills, resources, strengths, and abilities are explored for you to be successful in achieving the vision you have for your life.
